Escape (1987-1992)

Escape was a long-term documentary project recording vernacular seaside houses, holiday homes
and chalets in coastal Norfolk, Sussex, Essex, Kent and Dorset in the South East together with North
Wales. Celebrating the resourcefulness and inventiveness of householders and their various modifications,
repairs and restyling, the project presents a wide range of different structures including prefabs,
converted railway carriages, repurposed second world war buildings and wooden, plotland-era holiday
homes. Each building with its unique facade, garden or signage - often poignant or humorous, is testament to the character of their owners.
